The imperfection of geometric being(s) as seen through the making and breaking of the grid
Series of 12
Shadows come to be due to the interaction of light with dark, this relationship creates shapes that neither exist nor endure, therefore are exempt from the rules of geometry – they are a conceptual painting of the irrational. Irrationality becomes logic, for the lack of specific recurrences or repetitions translates into the pattern itself. Working on the notions of lines, planes and volumes within space the images focus on the basic elements of shape and composition exploring the tensions that arise between them, choreographing a new rhythm with which to redetermine what is up and what is down.
Giving concrete objects pliability implies that the reality perceived around us is but one in an infinite array of realities. It is our primal need for reality to be consistent and logical that limits the creation of new grids to play with. Through the redefining of the grid, and therefore its usage, the limitations and constraints within its design arise, proving that geometric abstraction can be more powerful than precision.
